Some really good tips. As long as your willing to work without going overboard, SEO is not as hard as some make it out to be.

"Before you install, unhook everything besides an external hard drive."

Actually, when I installed, everything went fine until the restart; then I had the BSOD. I ran Disk Warrior and found 18 items that were wrong. I "fixed" them and restarted but still got BSOD.

I hooked up my iBook to the Internet and found several references to the fact that EVERYTHING should be unhooked, particularly Firewire. Since I was (almost) all back up to my Firewire drive, I had to erase the main drive and reinstall. That worked fine.

I was caused about five hours of nervous time trying to fix a problem I shouldn't have had, and sure, I am still discovering stuff that I didn't know was being wiped off during the reinstall, so yes, I really wish I'd known to unhook my back-up drive.

Nice read. Although from realistic standpoint I think signing up for every Tom, Dick and Harry web 2.0 social networking site a mistake. Professionals do not want their dirty/clean laundry search engine indexed. And most certainly no one even knows what is going to happen with all the social networking data in the future. When someone creates a search algorithm that spiders all your profiles and finds out exactly how much time you spent playing on the web don't you think employers are going to be concerned about your ability to be productive? Imagine trying to find your dream job and your would be employer finds a myspace page littered with garbage from years past. All about you and your party days or all about the time you told the world your web 2.0 site was the next best thing and you quit your job.
